Edit: Should add that Awesome will kick up the core version mismatch warning at startup because as far as I know its developer never made it officially compatible with the Steam version of the game. If that's the only reason that the core mismatch error appears, and if the player can click through it, then it's harmless. If the game instead minimizes to the taskbar and there is no way to click through the warning, then Awesome becomes useless.
